No High Like the Most High

By: Josh Powell

Summary

A take-off of a surreptitious drug-deal, except that the "drug" is the Bible.

Characters

Jason (Normal teenage clothing.)
Chuck (Dressed like a drug dealer. Is wearing a zip up jacket with a bag inside so that no one can see it.)

Script

Jason: (Is standing at center stage by himself looking at his watch impatiently).  He should be here by now.  Where is he?  He was supposed to be here ten minutes ago. (Looks both stage left and stage right and then starts to pace nervously).
Chuck: (Enters, checking over his shoulder to make sure no one is behind him. LOoks over the stage to make sure coast is clear before walking up to Jason. Jason stops pacing.)  Are you Jason?
Jason: Yes... and you would be?
Chuck:  It is probably best that you donít know my real name. Just call me Chuck.
Jason:  You have the stuff?
Chuck:  Yeah, but I canít just give it to you.
Jason:  What?
Chuck:  I want to make sure you know what you are getting into.
Jason:  What do you mean?
Chuck:  This is going to change your life.  It will change the way you look at the world and the way the world looks at you.
Jason:  Yeah, I hear it is the one high you never come down from.
Chuck:  Oh it is, but a lot of people in important places are not going to like you having this.  Hey, they are even passing laws trying to ban this stuff altogether.
Jason:  Wow, it must be pretty intense.
Chuck:  I remember my first time (pauses). It was so awesome, it just has this way of pulling you into its world so much that you forget what is going on around you.
Jason:  I canít wait.  How much will it be? (Pulls out wallet).
Chuck: No, I couldnít sell this stuff to you. Put your money back.
Jason:  (Puts wallet back in his pocket).  Thanks, man.
Chuck:  No problem.  I have my sources, and it really doesnít cost me that much.
(Unzips his jacket pulls the bag out and hands it to Jason.  Then looks around to make sure no one was watching.)  I got to go. (Pauses and looks at the bag.) Be careful with that.  (Exits)
Jason:  (Slowly opens and takes a Bible out of the bag, holds it up so that the audience can see it.)  I canít wait to check this out.  (Exits).
