BBQ With God

By Mike Perrin

A drama about what would happen today with a God Moment. If we experience a Big God Moment like Peter or Moses, How would we react. Would we enjoy the moment or become distracted like Peter?

Luke 9:28-36

Peter: man barbequing
God: Voice of God

Grill, Apron, Grill utensils

Setting: Peterís Backyard

(Peter is cooking and humming)

God: PeterÖ

Peter: (looks behind and then shrugs shoulders)

God: Peter!

Peter: (acts like he is looking over hedge) Hey, Fred, you calling me.

God: Iím calling you, Peter.

Peter: (Looks over shoulder at the grill) Great, the grill is talking to me. Thatíll teach me not to stay up late watching ďThe Ten Commandments.

God: Peter

Peter: Alright, Iíll play along. Who are you?

Peter: Oh great, a riddle.

God: No riddle. It Is I, Your God. (Thunder sound effect)

Peter: (Speechless, with a look of awe and shock on face)

God: It is o.k., you can talk to me.

Peter: This is so incredible. What can I do for you, oh my master. (Falls to knees)

God: Stand up for one, if your neighbor Fred sees you, heíll think youíve gone mad. Anyways, your steak is burning. This is a grill, not a bush.

Peter: (Gets up and flips his steak) This is so cool! (Excitedly)

God: Better. (pause) Now Listen,

Peter: (interrupting) Iíve got to do something special to remember this day.

God: No, youíve got to listen to me. There is something I want you to do. I want you to help your neighbor, Fred, become a Christian.

Peter: Oh, I see why you didnít want me down on all fours. But this I so awesome. Iím talking with God.

God: Peter, back to Fred. I want you toÖ..

Peter: (interrupting) I need to do something special.(Thinking and not paying attention to God) Something Big, Something Permanent.

God: Peter, I am trying to instruct you here. Concentrate!

Peter: Something like anÖ..altar! Like Abraham did!

God: Peter! Youíre no Abraham! Listen to me!

Peter: Right, Iím not Abraham. Youíre in the form of fire, like Moses, a bush! No! too simple. Think bigger and solid. A large brick BBQ with both gas and charcoal, side electric heating pads.

God: (interrupting) Peter!, I just want you to lead Fred to me.

Peter: A mini-fridge, a bread warming tray, wine chiller, maybe a whole deck, too! It is good for me to be here.

God: Peter.

Peter: Yes, God. (still excited)

God: Iíll get someone else and oh, by the way, your steak is burnt.
